Global Volunteers
The global volunteers should be ready to travel to other countries and serve people there. Sometimes when people are affected by disasters like tsunami or earthquake, self help becomes impossible. They certainly need help of outsiders and so the service of global volunteers becomes essential here.
The global volunteers have to spend their own money and time and efforts to get to the foreign nation and start their work. Sometimes they will be offered a little amount of money as stipends that are raised through donations. If the global volunteers’ association helps you some support you must be able to raise funds to work in far off lands. The cost of global volunteers would include airfare, room rent, boarding and lodging, in-country trips and various other things. If you want to become one of the global volunteers you have to ask the program representatives about these things. He will help you by explaining how your fee will be allocated.
The global volunteers before setting out to other countries may require some essential training. This may be language training or emergency evacuation training or first aid training. This would depend upon the project you are going to take. You may want to take special tourist excursions along with your project. In that case you must have enough funds to spend for that.
Some of the global volunteers would prefer to work in urban areas while others prefer rural areas or slum areas. You have to speak clearly of your preferences earlier. Also you must specify if you want to travel alone and manage there or you want to go together with a group as a member of that group. The accommodations in these places may not be very comfortable. You have to bear bare-bones accommodations. So you must be ready to bear all these things so that you would not grumble later on.
The global volunteers should first of all think that they are going not for getting adventures alone but to fulfill the mission they are undertaking. Seeking adventures is not a bad thing but this should not be your first motive. The global volunteers should have attained at least eighteen years of age. The minors below that age would not be permitted. You can form a team yourself, and arrange for necessary training and do all sorts of things required for the trip yourself, instead of waiting for somebody else to do them. This is the real voluntary work.
